How to Look More Expensive Without Breaking the Bank (II)

Again, Disclaimer: This article is not in any way or form encouraging vanity, pretentiousness or inauthenticity. It, on the other hand aims to help readers who are trying to be the best versions of themselves to look and act like the best versions of themselves as well.

Also, the term “expensive” used in this article is intended in the context of this article to mean regal, elegant and sophisticate, and not literally meant in the context of money, cost or other economic value

14. Exude Confidence, Grace And Charm

Confidence, grace and charm are three very attractive traits in a person. They speak volumes about the person’s measure of self worth and the depth of their modesty and regard for others. It is indded heartbreaking to meet a person whom we think highly of, only for them to be mean, conceited and arrogant jerks. A lot of the time, meanness comes from a deep-rooted insecurity. Grace and charm, on the other hand, stem from a healthy confidence and esteem for one’s self and others. A person who exhibits them, appears content with life. Contentment is very much linked to some form of wealth or the other.

15.Practice Good Manners Always

Good manners show good breeding, good breeding is in turn associated with the elites. Having good manners and a broad sense of etiquette at your finger tips is a sure way of looking expensive. In order to do this, you would need to learn and practice them so often that they become a part of you. Learning material is all over the internet. You have access to books, articles, podcasts and videos to help.

16. Read

Now we can’t all afford to travel across the world to learn about places, people and various ways of life. But we have another means of traveling, and that is through reading. Reading broadens the mind almost as much as traveling does. But it does you one better as well, it broadens your vocabulary and improves your grammar. It helps you stay informed. One who reads can stand their own in any conversation. Being knowledgeable is something that makes one look like a million bucks. It unconsciously makes people who interact with you assume that you’re an ivy league graduate. Plus, beauty without brains is really a waste of space.

17.Fabric Selection And Care

The type of fabrics your clothes are made of can easily elevate you unto a pedestal. The great thing about it is, these fabrics are not even as pricey as they look. When buying clothes, go for fabrics like cotton, silk, linen, cashmere wool and leather. They tend to look more expensive than their counterparts. Another key point is to always take good care of your clothes and their fabrics. Do not wear wrinkled clothes. Make sure your clothes look pressed or steamed always. Invest in an inexpensive fabric steamer and/or iron. Also de-defuzz/de-bubble your fabrics that tend to get fuzzy often, to keep them looking fresh always. Keep a lint roller handy, in your bag or car, to take off lint and hair from your fabrics.

18. Invest In Entry-Level Designer Pieces

Like the title of the article suggests, we are not trying to break the bank here. This is a very optional tip. If you love labels and you want to sport them every now and then, but you’re on a very limited budget; a great way to start is to invest in entry-level designer pieces. Like sunglasses, belts, wallets, scarves, etc. These items are smaller and cheaper than bigger items like shoes and bags. They are also very versatile, and you would definitely get your money’s worth off them.

19. Be More Generous

Blessed people bless people. If you’re content and happy with where you are in life, you feel more inclined to help others. Being generous with your resources is something that is not just a virtue, but is one associated with the wealthy. So get to cultivating this habit of being generous with not not just your money, but with your time and talents as well. Pick up the check for lunch with your friends here; plan a charity event there; participate in some humanitarian or philanthropic cause here; take care of a strangers hospital bills anonymously there. You don’t have to wait till you’re a billionaire to do these, work with what you have. A good way to do this is by having a monthly budget for your charity. That way you can do good generous deeds all year round.

20. Eat Rich And Health

You cannot be expensive if you do not widen your scope of cuisine. A broad scope of cuisine and a readiness to try new cuisine and new dishes is a sign of an affluent mind. Try new things before writing them off as not being your thing. You will never really know what you don’t like till you try it. Besides, you may find yourself at an important event with cuisine new to you. It is rather rude, distasteful and a sign of simpleness of the mind to screw up your face and refuse to touch what you are served.

Similarly, to be expensive, you need to show that you respect your body by feeding it good healthy food. Read up on healthy lifestyles and find what nutritional lifestyle suits you best, then adopt it. You can always customize it to suit you.

21. Invest in Classic Vintage and Antique Pieces

Wealthy people are always inheriting precious heirloom from one dead family member or the other. If you’re not in a position to inherit anything, you can buy yourself some vintage fashion accessory, or antique decorative pieces. It gives you a touch of ageless class. Pick pieces that are still intact and are not worn out yet. Another way to do this is by going “shopping” in your grandma’s or mother’s old trunk, with their permission (if it can still be obtained).

22. Practice Good Posture

There are just a few things sadder than seeing a well-dressed person walk about sluggishly, or sit sloppily, or throw about their bodies with such careless abandon. Learn proper posture for various situations. Yes, postures vary slightly, depending on environment and attire. Learn them all and put them to use. You would be royalty!

23. The Right Underwear

Many a great outfit outfit have been ruined by the wrong underwear. Nothing is as tacky as undergarments peeking through an outfit; or worse, a missing undergarment where it should be crucial. Wearing the right undergarment involves ensuring that they are the right style, the right color, and the right fit for the outfit you will be sporting atop them. They should blend with your body and your outfit seamlessly, without forming dividers or peeking through where they should not.

24. Take Your Health Seriously

Despite the fact that taking your health seriously makes you seem expensive, it is actually cheaper for you in the long run. By running regular check ups, keeping fit and maintaining a healthy nutritional lifestyle; you are able to pick up early when something is off, and have it taken care of before it becomes harder to treat. People who are not affluent mentally, think that exercise and healthy diet are restricted for weight-watchers. This could not be farther from the truth. It is a lifestyle that would keep your health in great heights. That is why rich people always look “fresh” and “younger than their age”.

25. Respect Others

People who want to be respected, know that they first have to respect others and respect themselves. It is the law of nature. Respecting others stems from a deep respect for one’s self. Yes there are some rich people who have no respect for others, but it is obvious that those kind of people have no respect for themselves as well. Make it a point of duty to not just be polite to others, but to be warm and courteous to them. This compels them to treat you with even greater respect. This does not mean that one cannot be firm. It is possible to be firm, yet respectful and courteous. You can disagree with people respectfully as well.

26. Communicate Better: Listen Carefully, Speak Clearly

If you have had an expensive and extensive education, it shows in the way you express your self. Your broadened vocabulary, your impeccable grammar, your ability to express your thoughts clearly, and your logical reasoning. However, communicating better goes beyond speaking, it includes listening as well. Your ability to articulate and comprehend, your good listening posture, your capacity to think before you speak. The great thing is, you don’t need to have paid a fortune to acquire these as well (see tip #16). It must also be mentioned that profanity and vulgarity should be avoided, use better expressions.
